Life as we know it has changed dramatically through the years.
I was born in July of 1968, and I grew up during the development of this life changing technology, cell phones, social media, flat screen TVs etc. that we are all accustomed too.
Gone are the days of a household watching a console TV on the floor as the family gathers to watch Dick Van Dyke. We now hang them on the walls, and yes I said them as one isn't enough anymore we have placed TVs in all of our bedrooms, kitchens and yes I've even seen them in bathrooms!
I often remember the days when we needed a dime to use a pay phone and nowadays you cant even find one, due to most of us having cellphones, besides the added bill they caused initially I felt it was convenient and traveled well.
Once you could access the internet on them and gain access to apps it all changed. Now trying to have a conversation with someone is difficult, I you need to time your questions at the opportune moment or else you have to continuously repeat yourself due to their not paying attention as they scroll through social media, play a video game on the go or surf the net.
I see family when I'm out to eat and all of them including parents are playing with their phones and not even conversing.
I feel the old adage " A family that dines together stays together" needs to be changed to " A family that dines together with no electronics stays together.
The level of childhood addiction is frightening, it seems that as soon as a child turns two they have an IPAD shoved in their faces and the addiction takes off from there.
There is a reason that Steve Jobs did not let his children use them. If that's not enough to tell you something is wrong I don't know what will.
Till next time
